People just love to sue people!
There have been some strange lawsuits in the past. However, when it comes to strange lawsuits, this one might just take the cake. Rockstar is being sued over a character from their popular Grand Theft Auto: Vice City game. Yes, a 15-year-old game is being dragged up again thanks to one of the characters in the game.
Which character you ask? Was it Tommi Vercetti? Maybe Lance Vance? Not quite. The highly regarded Auntie Poulet. One of the wacky side characters that GTA is famous for. But the odd thing is the person who the character was based on isn’t even suing them!
It’s the company the holds the right to the character of Miss Cleo, a famous physic from back in the day. Psychic Readers Network, the people involved in the lawsuit are saying that Rockstar used the Miss Cleo likeness without permission. A claim which seems a bit strange, considering Youree Dell Harris the actress who portrayed Miss Cleo voiced the character of Auntie Poulet.
But the actress and The Psychic Readers Network are different matters as it would be argued. The Network owns the character of Miss Cleo and Harris simply portrayed her for them. If they had no hand in the character of Auntie Poulet, then why wait all this time to do something about it? It’s a head scratching situation for sure.
A spokesperson for Rockstar told TMZ: “These claims are entirely meritless and completely ridiculous. We will vigorously defend ourselves with regard to this matter.”
Yet another day in the strange world of video game related lawsuits.
