Remake of Duke Nukem 3D in the works!

Gearbox have been teasing some new information regarding Duke Nukem and his future. Considering the last entry ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ not striking the cords that they had hoped for, despite the endless wait. Everyone was a bit skeptical of what news could come out of Gearbox. Perhaps another adventure into the world of Duke Nukem with some polish? Seems like it! We’re revisiting some familiar territory however, rather than a whole new adventure.

Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary Edition World Tour (AKA DN3D20AEWT, mouthful that.) is a fully remade version of Duke Nukem 3D. Complete with new updated visuals for modern consoles. But instead of giving the game a touch up and leaving it at that, Gearbox have decided to throw together a slew of new levels, voice lines, and general content for this ‘World Tour.’

A brand new episode with eight levels are included in this new edition. Take Duke around locations such as Hollywood, Paris, and Amsterdam. With updated references for the modern age. Amsterdam for example including topical weed use references for example. The best part is that the levels will be designed by Allen Blum III and Richard “Levelord” Gray, the level artists who worked on the original game.

Combine the new levels, voice line, and boss battles with the fact that it’ll included 8 player multiplayer and eight-player co-op, then you’ve got a Duke Nukem adventure for the ages! You can introduce your friends to the Duke Nukem that has reigned supreme for quite some time, the original bad ass!

If you’re hankering for some retro group gameplay, you’ll be happy to learn that eight-player multiplayer as well as eight-player co-op and one-player bot matches (with seven bots) will be included in this release. It also brings the Rewind feature from the Megaton version, which lets you scroll through your progress in a level on a timeline and pick up from any point you like. So needless to say, they’ve paid a great attention to detail with this love letter to Duke.
