Resident Evil Reboot Film In Development

Resident Evil has seen a resurgence in popularity with the recent release of Resident Evil 7, rightfully so as it delivers a fresh Horror experience that we had thought was lost since the last Resident Evil game, which was a bit more an action heavy based title.

Can the same be said for the Resident Evil films? Not so much. While they have their audience, most agree that is not the core Resident Evil audience. We’ve seen classic characters featured in the films, from Leon to Barry Burton, but at a first glance, most fans don’t see ‘Resident Evil’ they see “Milla Jovovich the Action Film’.

But it sounds like there is a chance that could change very soon.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter has put a close onto the series, but as we’ve learned from the likes of film series’ like Friday The 13th and The Hunger Games, no matter what title you put. If there is money to be made, it’ll get made.

The studio behind the Jovovich Resident Evil films has revealed plans to reboot the series and give it a new lease on life. Having gone on record as saying the reboot is currently in development. We don’t know for sure yet if this means we’ll be seeing the same plot with a different coat of paint, or if they’ll go full reset on the series and give us a more Capcom focused style of Resident Evil with our favourite cast of characters from the games.

One thing to keep in mind though is that the recent film was the highest grossing film thus far, so it depends on if the studio wants to bank on an unproven formula, versus their proven formula with the high payout. So for now, we’ll have to see what they do with the franchise moving forward.

What about you? How do you want them to do a Resident Evil Reboot?
