SNES Mini – Everything You Need To Know

SNES Mini – Playing with Super Power

Finally! Having been rumoured for some time, the SNES Mini has been announced at long last! We’ve all suspected it would happen sooner rather than later, and we’re at last able to take happiness from the fact that we’ll be seeing what some call the best era to be a Nintendo fan make it’s ‘mini’ debut.

But there is a bunch of information floating around about the system. You’ve got your mate Jim down the street waving his hands in the air about a lack of stock, or unaware journalists reporting on the wrong games. Needless to say, given all of the information flying around – People are a bit confused. So we here at FunstockRetro are here to be of some assistance to those who want to know the full low down on the SNES Mini!

Without further ado, let us start things off and cover what you should know about the SNES Mini!

Nintendo will be providing more stock than the NES Classic Mini

The NES Classic Mini release was a disaster when it came to getting stock. It was Amiibo all over again. One thing that Nintendo seems to do is under commit when it comes to stock and we all have to endure stock shortages and dangle at the mercy of the jerks who bought stock to wave around on Ebay. It’s torture.

We know that everyone is worried, especially as the stock is selling out left and right at the moment. However, Nintendo has gone record to state that they’ll be giving us ‘significantly’ more units of the SNES Mini this time around. They won’t give out numbers but are promising that for 2017 they’ll be making more stock than did for the launch of the NES Mini.  So while it seems dire right now, we should see more stock announcements for the year and hopefully, that’ll give everyone a chance to get one and leave the scalpers sitting on dead stock.

The only bedbug is that Nintendo has stated that they’ll only be supporting this model until the end of 2017. Many of us would like them to support the unit until demand is gone, but they are businessmen concerned with business at the end of the day. But it is a good sign that they’ve taken notice of how poorly the stock was handled last time and will be focusing on bringing a better experience this time around.

The wires will be longer this time!

See that picture above? We shouldn’t have an issue like that with SNES Mini. The cable we got before was about 3FT. Whereas the SNES Mini will have a 5FT cable! It’s not a massive change, but it should prove better in the long run. While no doubt we’ll see every number of cable extension to wireless peripheral for the system.

It’s interesting that Nintendo went with such a short length for the NES Mini when it launched, as surely people will have tested the unit out. Why on earth would nobody complain about the length during a testing phase? More than likely a cost-cutting measure, the big N will be listening to consumers this time around. Which is a breath of fresh air, but sad as we won’t see as many memes or length jokes as we did prior.

Anyone who was frustrated with the length of the NES Mini wire, you can rest easy for the SNES Mini will have your back!

Different versions with different games!

As most of us are aware, the yanks got a bit of a different console. Whereas our SNES followed the design of the Super Famicom. Everyone has their favourite and Nintendo is respecting this! Just like the NES Mini, we’ll be seeing each region get a SNES Mini based on what they were given during the time. It’s a fun little piece of knowledge for us fans and collectors out there! A better piece of knowledge is that the each one has its own set of games! The US/PAL side of games will stay the same, but games on the Super Famicom version are going to be different!
