Fans re-create Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in HD; It’s also Playable!

Ever since its release in 1992 onto the SEGA Megadrive, or Genesis if you prefer, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has remained relatively the same in both appearance and gameplay; even when the game received a re-release on to another platform nothing was ever changed. Put bluntly there has never been a true ‘re-make’ of the game; and that’s where this Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD fan project comes into play.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD, codenamed Sonic 2 HD for short, is a project by fans for fans that sees the iconic SEGA game being recreated and given the true ‘attention to detail’ that it deserves. From a gameplay aspect Sonic 2 HD remains true to the original source, whereby players can spin-dash across the level and defeat Dr Robotnik at the end; the difference is that the visuals have been brought into the 20th Century, so there’s no pixels on screen and instead uses a more artistic approach – as demonstrated in our gameplay video.

Sonic the hedgehog 2 HD is currently in development but you can download a playable alpha build here. Sonic the Hedgehog merchandise is also available to purchase on Funstockretro.co.uk
