Star Fox 64, otherwise known in Europe as Lylat Wars, has been released onto the Nintendo Wii U eShop as part of the consoles Nintendo 64 Virtual Console range and, ironically enough, just a month a head of Star Fox Zero’s Wii U release in Europe.
The game, which is currently half-price until the release of Star Fox Zero next month, is a sequel to the previously released Super Nintendo game Star Wing and it sees the mercenary group Star Fox attempt to save the Lylat system from the evil Andross and his army.
ersonally Star Fox 64 has always been one of my favourite Nintendo 64 games, and it is also a game that has previously been re-mastered and re-released onto the Nintendo 3DS as Star Fox 64 3D; so its nice to see the game being re-released onto the Wii U just before its next launch of the series.
In any event this new ‘Wii U’ virtual console release of Star Fox 64 remains true to the original Nintendo 64 cartridge, with its multiple routes and boss fights, except tailored to the Wii U console and it’s GamePad. Just like other Nintendo 64 games on the system users can opt to play the game through their TV screen or on the Wii U GamePad itself – something which has prooven to be quite popular amongst Wii U owners.
