Sony have confirmed that Super Star Wars, a game which originally released onto the Super Nintendo Entertainment System platform in 1992, will be released onto the PS4 and PS Vita today on the American Playstation Network Store.

Super Star Wars is a side-scrolling platformer that re-tells the events of the first Star Wars film, in this case Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, in gaming format.

The game, which will come with improved HD Visuals, Leaderboards and Trophy Support, was previously announced as a ‘Console Bundle Exclusive’ with the Limited Edition Star Wars Battlefront PS4 Console; however an update on the American Playstation Blog reveals that it will also be released as stand-a-lone download for the PS4 and PS Vita. What’s even more interesting is that the game will even come with cross-buy support; so those who purchase it on the PS4 will also receive access to the PS Vita version of the game and vice versa.

It’s not yet been confirmed if the game will be coming to the UK/EU store; but it would be quite a surprise if it did not.

The original Super Star Wars cartridge can be played on the retron 5 console; a console which is available to order at You can also save 5% on your order by using the discount code ‘NEWS5’.
