23 years since Sony’s legendary PS1 was released to the masses. 23 years of Sniper Fox, Ridge Racer Galaga, and miserable piles of little secrets. It’s been a hell of a ride and some would argue it still boasts the best catalogue of games to grace a Sony console. There are the classics of course, but some very under-rated titles too, some of my faves being:

Wild Arms

One of the best RPGs I’ve ever played, which got sorely overlooked due to the proximity of its release date with Final Fantasy 7. If you’ve never played it before, you owe it to yourself as a RPG fan to get through it, it’s absolutely phenomenal.

Diver’s Dream

A great novelty game which sees you playing a diver who has decided to start scoping out a certain area of water looking for a long lost treasure. It’s a little ‘blocky’ now, both visually and gameplay wise, but it’s a great short experience while it’s there.

Colony Wars

A great little space combat sim, I have a LITTLE claim to fame with this one… as a very young child, I actually play-tested this at Sony Liverpool before it was released. And I loved it then too!

It doesn’t seem to catch a break from the general gaming public these days but I loved Overblood as a child. Kinda like a space-based Resident Evil, it had some neat touches and was worth the play-through.

This was SUCH A GOOD GAME. Like a serious version of the Serious Sam series (nice tongue twister), Exhumed is a fantastic FPS with a shit-ton of awesome secrets and great level design.

I could go on and on but I’d end up listing about 50 games. But yeah, celebrate the PS1, it gave us all some of the best gaming moments of our lives!
