The SupaBoy S – A Brief Overview

The SupaBoy S is the latest in the SupaBoy line from the folks down at Hyperkin. Hyperkin have a very deep history when it comes to the creation of fantastic emulation consoles and handhelds having made quite a number of popular choices over the years.

They made the Retron 5 for crying out loud! One of the best all in one game consoles ever! Granted the Retro Freak is looking to dethrone the Retron 5 in the coming year. Don’t know what the Retro Freak is? You can read a full breakdown on the console here. After you’ve read that, make sure to pre-order it here.

Focusing back on the SupaBoy S, it’s the brand new version of the old SupaBoy and improves on the original in every way. Let’s have quick look at why!

The ‘SupaBoy S’ embraces the pursuit of the impossible: turning a portable console into a childhood dream. A modern dream. Maintaining a retro yet timeless look, the SupaBoy S gives the SupaBoy the revamp it deserves, with upgrades catering to the most discerning of gamers! How does it do all of that you ask? It’s a complete overhaul that keeps all the core concepts that make the first SupaBoy so great.

The SupaBoy S boasts the following features…

  • New larger 4.3″ screen
  • PAL + NTSC Switch
  • Play your SNES and Super Famicom games
  • 2 player – use your original SNES controllers
  • Crystal clear speaker audio, including a 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • Adjustable brightness button
  • Rechargeable Li-Ion battery with 10 hours of battery life
  • Micro USB charge cable for computer USB port/AC adapter

It’s been slimmed down to a crazy small build! To call this a portable gaming console could not fit the description more to a T! It’s one of the most compact handhelds on the market and will fit in your pocket just fine. Also the fact that it’s coming with a new screen that has quality that is to die for is an added bonus!

Keeping in mind that you grab your old SNES controllers and play away? Oh yes please. But the NTSC and Pal switch is my favourite feature as you can switch from a game of Super Mario to jumping into Terranigma! What is not to love about that?

That’s all we know about the console so far, which is far more than we know when it started popping up a few months back at E3 at the Hyperkin booth. The fact that the console is due for a release soon is just as exciting. You can pre-order this right on – The #1 for Retro in all of the UK and Europe! Click here to look at the SupaBoy S!
