Turok 2 is being remastered!

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is a really fantastic game that came out for the N64 back in 1997 that is getting some deserved attention.  When people mention some of the best 64 games released they often speak of the greats like Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda, and anything that Rare created like Banjo Kazooie and Goleneye. Turok however does not get nearly enough love, it stood out as one of the more creative action titles released for the system, even getting a sequel in the form of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil a year later. It’s that very sequel that’s getting a special treatment from a dedicated studio…

Night Dive Studios are an experts in remastering some of the best old school PC games of yesteryear, as they had their hands in remastering the first Turok title for the PC, and even System Shock. So when they announced that Turok 2 is being worked on in the same fashion, you can best believe that we were rather giddy with the announcement! So far not a lot has been released about the project, Night Dive simply saying that the game will be come out whenever it’s finished. So it seems as though they aren’t aiming for a specific window, leaves more time for them to polish it properly anyway.

No word on if it’ll have the classic Multiplayer, or any changes in general, but everyone enjoys a bit of over the top action with dinosaurs and loads and loads of guns. While there is a lack of information at the moment, here is a list of what the Night Dive team did with the original Turok.

  • High resolution and widecreen support
  • OpenGL for video backend to provide portability and support for vertical sync.
  • Level and gamplay overhaul based on fan feedback
  • Visual enhancements such as bloom, higher textures, and more.
  • Glorious Steam Achievements.
  • Rebind options for keyboard and mouse so you can map the controls to whatever you wish.

We’re all quite excited to see what the team does with project, and will be looking at any further updates very closely! You all excited too?
