How fast do you think you could beat the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? Speedrunner Jodenstone did it in under 18 minutes, taking the OoT any% world record last week (“any%” means getting to the end of the game as quickly as possible without accounting for beating all dungeons, bosses etc.).
If you’ve seen Ocarina of time speedruns before, some of the tricks may be familiar to you – if this is your first time, you might be a little shocked by the skips and exploits speedrunners have managed to eek out of the two-decade old game. There are some mighty impressive feats on show that demand a significant amount of practice to pull off – and an endless amount of restarts when things go wrong.
The previous world records were held by skater82297 (18:03) and Cosmo Wright (18:10). At one point, it would have been difficult to believe a sub-18 minute time would even have been possible, but given that all three of the runners achieved those times in 2015, it just goes to show how far you can push some retro game completion times with enough skill, dedication and research.
